Fans: The Green Sports Game-Changer
Sustainability in the Pacific Northwest is a much more advanced conversation than almost anywhere else in the country. So Seattle seems apropos for the upcoming Green Sports Summit hosted by the Green Sports Alliance. Last year we heard inspiring stories from the Trail Blazers, Mariners, Houston Dynamo and others about successes in waste diversion, supply chain management and recycling. The NRDC team provided a big picture context and a strong voice for sustainability in sports.
Now that the GSA has grown to include over 100 members, including 13 leagues, it will be interesting to see if green is something only seen as a socially responsible money saving activity or if it will indeed pervade the culture of sports to engage and empower a real game changing force—the millions and millions of fans.
